In June 2005, the Government of Ontario passed the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act ("AODA"). The purpose was to create a barrier-free province by 2025, by incorporating standards that promote dignity and independence for those with disabilities.

The OADA is built around the core principles of independence, dignity, integration and equality of opportunit.
